"Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life. It's important to the person who serves as well as the recipient. It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop."

~~~~Dr. Dorothy I. Height~~~~
At our June meeting, we will held a raffle and raised $180.00 for the Virginia Statewide Payroll conference charity,  the Animal Aid Society.  The Animal Aid Society: is a “no-kill” dog shelter.  The society began in 1971 with a mission of finding homes for stray, abandoned, and abused dogs.  Their dogs are not euthanized and live there until placed in a home.
Soldiers Angels
Hampton Roads first Community Service event for 2011.  During the February meeting a raffle ticket was bought for anyone who donated to the Soldiers Angels Project. This is a project that directly benefits our men and women overseas.  The chapter has set a goal of providing 25 boxes for the soldiers.
We raised $297.00 and the chapter donated $303.00.  This allowed the chapter to purchase 25 "Cool Packs".  to be sent to 25 troops overseas..  More Info
NPW Community Service Projects
As part of the chapters National Payroll Week Celebration, the HRAPA particpated in three community service activities:
9/11 10th Anniversary
Honoring our Fire Fighters and EMT's
As part of our National Payroll Week,  our chapter  focused on supporting our Virginia Beach Fire Fighters and EMT's volunteers in recognition of the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.  On September 17th,at Station 9, Sam Brigman, Dawn Flora, Christy Burleson, Jean Sweeney and Jackie Kronstain trav-eled to the station to provide breakfast for the 10 men and women on duty that morning.
They did have an opportunity with about half of the crew there to say thank you for all they do!  The emergency response folks here at home play just as big a part in keeping us safe and alive right here in our own backyards.
Station 9, we thank you and all of the first responders for all you do every day!
Education First!!!!
Giving A Helping Hand
Ronald McDonald House
At the September 8th meetig, the Hampton Roads Chapter members collected nonperishable food items  for the Ronald McDonald House in Norfolk. In our August meeting, we announced that the chapter would support this cause on behalf of one of our chapter members and family.  The Ronald McDonald House can house up to 17 families.  Their pantry, freezer and refrigerator are very low during this time of year.
After the September 8th meeting, the HRAPA board members purchased the frozen items.  Then they took all the donated items to the Norfolk Ronald McDonald House.
